Earth House – May 2025: The Frame Arrives

by 31st May, 2025

It’s May, and excitement builds as the oak beams have arrived on site from Oakwrights.

Alex and Nick, Site Foreman, inspect the beams destined for the centrepiece crescent. The junctions were designed by the frame designer and turned into a machine file for precise cutting at Oakwrights.

Once these beams are hoisted into their vertical position, they will echo their original place standing tall in the woods just across the site. It’s cause for celebrating the epic journey of taking the trees from the woods, to Whitney, Oakwrights, and now back home for their new purpose.

It’s not just big pieces that matter, either. When sawing the oak to create the timber frame, the falling wood has been sized and dried at Whitney Sawmills, so it can be used as cladding, floorboards, skirting, doors, and furniture.
