We were delighted that St Peter’s Church, Hereford reached the West Midlands finals of this year’s LABC Building Excellence Awards in the category of Best Community Project.
The Building Excellence Awards focus on the essence of good buildings. Finalists are not judged on architectural beauty, but on the “Excellence” shown from a construction and technical building control point of view. The awards therefore showcase buildings and design teams that have had to tussle with technical issues, difficult sites and develop innovative and creative solutions.
We were particularly honoured that the project was nominated for the award by Herefordshire Council Building Control. The project needed to balance the requirements of modern building regulations whilst still preserving the fabric of a 12th century building. Resolving the issues meant we had to work very closely with Herefordshire Council Building Control. We feel the nomination reflects the success of our partnership.
This is the second time that a Communion project has been nominated for a LABC Building Excellence Award – in 2011 our conversion of a 17th century barn won the national award in the category of Best Conversion to Create a Dwelling. Find out more about this project.
