12th Century Romanesque Church reopens as Contemporary Event Space designed by Communion Architects.
Communion Architects are delighted to announce the opening of the New Bridge Community Centre, housed within the 12th century architectural gem of St Andrew’s Church.
This inspirational project was conceived entirely by the local community who had no public meeting space. After a successful application to the Big Lottery Fund, a grant was obtained to transform the existing church into a multifunctional event space. The project used all local materials and craftsmen, and combined this with the latest low carbon technology to heat the building using the latent heat from the ground.
Communion worked with the committee to design and deliver the project within a very tight budget and timescales. The project was opened by television personality, Kate Bliss from BBC’s programme Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is.
